The Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development is working on harmonizing civil aviation law with EU standards. Minister Vera Kobalia met the supervisor of the project, Georgia Online reports.
Talks were held with Director General of the Ministry of Transport, Urban Planning of Germany Tilo Smidt, manager of Austro Control GmbH Wilhelm Yagritch and Director of the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency Irakly Davitadze.
Harminization of law is important for infrastructure development. The program allows Georgian experts to cooperate with their German and Austrian counterparts. They are discussing ways to fulfill European standards. Aviation security, management of air traffic, licensing airports and staff are priorities.
Georgia and the EU have been cooperating since 2007 as part of the European Good-Neighbor Policy. The program exists for 10 years. The German Ministry of Transport, Urban Planning will have Doctor Jorga Hamersmidt, specialist of civil aviation, sent to Georgia for 18 months for consulting. The program is realized with support of the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument-is Gesellschaft fuer internationale Zusammenarbeit.
