Rosatom denies providing Iranian nuclear power plant with fuel

There have been no fuel shipments for the Iranian nuclear power plant in Bushehr in 2011, a source in Rosatom said, Trend reports.

Iranian media and a spokesman of the Iranian Organization for Nuclear Energy Hamid Hadem Kaemi said that Iran received 30 tons of nuclear fuel from Russia. The plant’s first power block was launched at a minimal output level.

bbcrussian.com said that Iran received about 80 tons of uranium in December 2008 and January 2009.

The nuclear power plant in Bushehr was launched on May 8, 2011, 30 years after its construction started in 1975. Kraftwerk Union (Germany) started the construction.

Atomstroyexport concluded the construction in 2010. The plant became the first nuclear power plant in Iran.

Western states accuse Iran of using the power plant for development of a nuclear program. Iran denies all accusations. The plant meets all international standards, does not violate the non-proliferation regime and its construction is supervised by the IAEA.
