Russia is considering the possibility of declassifying information on
its nuclear arms, an official spokesman of the Russian Interior
Ministry Andrey Nesterenko told a press-conference on Wednesday, RIA
Novosti reports.
Last week, the US Defense Ministry circulated a document about the
country’s nuclear arsenal, which includes 5,113 warheads. According to
the Pentagon, this is a reduction of 84% of the maximum number of
warheads (31,255) existant at the end of the 1967 financial year, and
is over 75% fewer than the number at the end of 1989, when the Berlin
Wall fell (22,217).
“After START was signed in Prague on 8th April by Russian and US
presidents and took effect, we can also consider in practice the issue
of publishing the total number of Russian deployed strategic carriers
and their warheads”, he said.
