IMF delegation to appraise Turkish economy in May

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will send a special delegation to Turkey in May to evaluate the country’s long-term economic outlook and policies, the organization said in a statement.

"The Turkish authorities and IMF management have agreed that the 2010 Article IV consultation will commence with the visit of an IMF staff mission beginning in the first half of May," IMF spokeswoman Caroline Atkinson said.

“The upcoming staff mission will assess in detail the latest developments affecting the Turkish economy, and will exchange views with the Turkish authorities on the outlook and on their policy plans,” the statement went on.

While such evaluations usually take place on an annual basis, this will be the first such visit by IMF officials to the country in three years.
