Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has made assurances that Tehran
has no plans for nuclear arms, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov
said after a meeting of Ahmadinejad and Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev, RIA Novosti reports.
Medvedev and Ahmadinejad were at the SCO summit in Astana. It started
with a trilateral meeting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The USA and a set of other states accuse Iran of developing nuclear
arms on the background of a peaceful nuclear program. Tehran denies
all the accusations.
The UN Security Council passed a resolution introducing additional
sanctions against Iran on June 2010. It is the fourth resolution
against Iran for its refusal to fulfil its international obligations
and clarify its nuclear program.
Iran announced plans for construction of 10 uranium-enrichment plants
in November 2009. Tehran announced production of 50 kg of uranium
enriched to 20% on June 13, 2011. The Iranian representative to the
IAEA, Ali Asgar Soltaniye, said that they plan to increase production
to 120 kg for research purposes.
