No obstacles left for Azerbaijani gas export to Europe (updated)

There are no obstacles left for Azerbaijani gas exports to Europe, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said, 1news.az reports.

Azerbaijan will provide gas from the second stage of Shah Deniz in late 2017 or early 2018.
A contract on purchase and sales of Azerbaijani gas was signed with Turkey recently, head of the PR section of BP-Azerbaijan Tamam Bayatly told Trend.

The documents pass the final version of development of the second stage of Shah Deniz.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan were at a session of the Council for Strategic Partnership in Izmir on October 25. They signed a strategic energy deal on purchase and sales of Azerbaijani gas, its transport through Turkey and an inter-governmental protocol on energy cooperation.

Azerbaijan provides gas for Turkey, Georgia and Russia. Shah Deniz exports gas to Georgia and Turkey via the South Caucasian gas pipeline.

Concerning the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, the project will involve infrastructure of Azerbaijan or will be built as part of the Southern Gas Corridor. Gas to Baku will be then pumped through Azerbaijani pipeline networks or new pipelines that are yet to be built. Transit deals increase chances of gas supplies from Middle Asia through Azerbaijan and Turkey to Europe.

They signed a transit deal on transport of Azerbaijani gas to Europe via the South Gas Corridor. Second stage of Shah Deniz will provide Europe with 10 billion cubic meters of gas annually. It is a priority project for the EU to diversify energy supplies. The South Gas Corridor includes Nabucco, Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), ITGI (Interconnector Turkey-Greece-Italy).
