Iran to resolve Lake Urmia problem using water from Kurdistan Province

Mohammad Javad Mohammad-zade, Iranian Vice-Premier and head of the Organization for Environmental Protection, told a press conference in Gulistan that the problem with the drying out of Lake Urmia will be resolved using Iran's own water resources from Kurdistan Province, IranNews reports.

Mohammad-zade plans to construct a 140 km-long pipeline for about $600 million. Another project is water from the River Araks. The Energy Ministry says that it is currently studying the water volumes needed for Lake Urmia.

Mohammad-zade noted that they plan to initiate artificial rains over Lake Urmia to solve the problem.
