The Committee for Foreign Affairs of the US Congress passed new sanctions against Iran on Wednesday. Measures will be taken against Iran’s Central Bank in response to murder plans of Saudi Arabian Ambassador Adil Al-Jubeir to Washington.
Head of the committee Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said that it would be a nice “present” to Tehran for the coming holidays. The US Senate is also viewing the sanctions. Barack Obama will pass the bill in the near future.
The Iranian Central Bank is suspected in terrorism, financing of nuclear program and support of elite forces of the republic such as the Revolutionary Guards Corps, a member of the committee Howard Berman says.
Any foreign financial institution with business ties with the Iranian Central Bank will have no access to the US economy.
Obama announced new sanctions against Iran after the murder attempt against the ambassador. The US had sanctions against 5 Iranian citizens involved in the failed murder. Four of them officers of the Al-Kurds special service, a structure of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps.
