Georgia and Lithuania to take part in joint transport projects

The Ports of Batumi, Poti and Klaipeda have signed a memorandum on cooperation. Georgian Minister for Economy Vera Kobalia proposed Lithuania to allow Georgia to take part in transport projects at the meeting in Vilnius, Business Georgia reports.


Lithuanian Minister for Economy Rimontas Zhilis said that special attention will be paid to investments in Georgia, especially in communications and information technologies. The sides noted an increase of trade turnover by 31% to $36 million in 2010. The increase in the first nine months of 2011 is 77%, including an increase of export by 127%.


Vera Kobalia met Lithuanian Minister for Transport and Communications Eligius Mesiulis and signed a cooperation protocol of the Ports of Batumi, Poti and Klaipeda. Lithuania offered Georgia to join transport projects, such as the Viking.


The Viking is a container railway train realizing freighting from the Black Sea port of Ilyichevsk in Ukraine to the Baltic Port of Klaipeda.


Georgian, Lithuanian, Ukrainian and Belarusian ministers for transport will soon meet.
