Azerbaijan is the primary trade partner for Georgia, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said at the 7th session of the intergovernmental economic commission of Georgia and Azerbaijan on December 20, Trend reports.
The session focused on energy, agriculture, transport, ecology, information technologies and other issues. Experts will meet on Monday.
Azerbaijan and Georgia have close economic ties. Azerbaijan’s main oil and gas supply runs through Georgia via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline. The sides are realizing construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) is actively working on the Georgian energy market. Azerbaijan is the second largest trading partner of Georgia.
