Iran has signed a deal with Afghanistan to provide it with 1 million tons of petroleum annually, including car and jet fuel, News Azerbaijan reports.
The document was signed between Alireza Zeygami, Director General of the Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) and Anvar ul-Hak Ahadi, Afghan Minister for Trade, RIA Novosti reports.
The NIORDC chief said that diesel fuel will cover 60-70% of exports, gasoline – 25-30%, jet fuel – 10%.
Prices for petroleum products will be set depending on the world markets. Iran temporarily banned Afghan tankers from transporting fuel from to Afghanistan through Turkey, Iraq and a set of other states. Iranian authorities consider that the fuel is for NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Official Kabul stated that all fuel transited through Iran is only for the inner market. The ban on tankers resulted in gasoline and diesel fuel prices rising by 35%.
Afghanistan has an annual demand for petroleum of 3 million tons, 1.5 million of which are consumed by the inner consumers and the same amount by US and NATO forces.
