Uzbekistan to pay $15 million to Kazakhstan for electricity

Uzbekistan will pay Kazakhstan $15 million for electricity, a PR manager of KEGOC, Marat Mukhamedsaliyev, said, CA-NEWS reports.

$12 million will be paid for consumed electricity and $3 million for regulation.

Kazakhstan postponed leaving the Unified Energy System of Central Asia.

KEGOC accused Uzbekistan in December of violating inter-governmental deals on parallel functioning of Kazakh and Russian energy systems. Uzbekistan hindered North-South transit on December 20 three times. Surges reached 400-700 MW.

KEGOC reported that it registered unpermitted power flows to Uzbekistan in the autumn-winter heating season. The flow reached 215 KW per hour on December 20 with a capacity of the North-South transit of 1350 MW. Automatic emergency systems were launched 50 times a day. Part of Kyrgyzstan was cut off from electricity due to an overload of the transit line.

The situation was repeated on December 21. Kazakhstan had rumours about its leaving the Unified Energy System of Central Asia. Kyrgyz Energy Minister Askar Shadiyev said that such a measure would reduce the electricity supply for Kyrgyzstan by 40%.
