Georgia and Turkey have signed an agreement on transboundary electricity trade on Friday. The agreement was signed by Georgian Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alexander Khetaguri and his Turkish counterpart Taner Yildiz, Trend reports.
The 400-kilovolt electric Akhaltsikhe-Borcha transmission lines are under construction within the framework of the power project. The project envisages the construction of 500-kilovolt and 400-kilovolt electric transmission phases. A 700-megawatt converter will be mounted, which will allow electricity produced in Georgia to be exported. The project budget is €300 million.
After signing the project, Khetaguri said Georgia will export electricity to Turkey and Europe via new electric transmission lines from this May.
