Turkey will continue purchasing oil and gas from Iran, despite sanctions, Turkish Minister for Energy Taner Yildiz said, Trend reports.
He reminded that decisions of the UN would be respected. Gas purchases will continue according to contracts, he added.
Foreign ministers of 27 EU states met in Brussels on January 23 and approved the embargo on Iranian oil exports. The new package of sanctions includes a gradual ban on imports of petroleum from Iran. The embargo will come into full force on July 1. The decision followed the US President Barack Obama’s decree on new sanctions against Iran, signed on December 31, 2011.
The Turkish minister said that TUPRAS will continue purchases of Iranian oil, BOTAS will purchase gas.
Yildiz reminded that Turkey filed a lawsuit against Iran to the International Court of Arbitration, demanding reconsideration of prices. He added that Turkey monitors the gas prices set by Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia and other states.
