Georgia bans Russian brands of Kindzmarauli, Khvanchkara and Tsinandali

Moscow Wintes&Spirits, a Russian company, has lost the right for the Kindzmarauli, Khvanchkara and Tsinandali brands, as stated by Irakly Gvaladze, head of the local National Center for Intellectual Property Sakpatent, Alcohol Information Portal reports.

The Russian company registered the brands in Germany in 2001. Sakpatent filed a lawsuit to Germany, noting that the three brands are a property of Georgia. It has not clarified how the Moscow company used the brands. Neither is the damage caused to Georgia mentioned.

The Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare of Russia banned Georgian wines back in 2006.

Official information says that Georgia exported 18.5 million bottles of wine (0.75 liter each) in 2011. Most were exported to Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan (73%), the rest to other states. 40 countries import Georgian wine.
