Hungary prioritizes AGRI

Hungary has called the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romanian Interconnector (AGRI) for transport of Azerbaijani liquefied gas to Europe through Georgia a priority energy project, Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri said in Budapest, Business Georgia reports.

Gilauri met Hungarian President Pal Schmitt, Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Speaker Laslo Kover.

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic takes part in the AGRI project, as well as the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, MVM (Hungary) and Romgaz (Romania). Vitaly Beglyarbekov, Deputy Vice-President of SOCAR for investments and marketing, is the CEO of AGRI.

The project will have a capacity of 2 billion cubic meters of gas annually, 5 billion cubic meters or 8 billion cubic meters. Expenses vary from 1.2 billion to 4.5 billion euros.

Gas will be transported along the Black Sea coast of Georgia, liquefied and then transported to Romania.

Georgian Finance Minister Dmitry Gvindadze said that the Georgian-Hungarian deal on prevention of double taxation will give an economic boost.
