Georgia sends 3 electric trains to Ukraine

Georgia has sent three VL11M-6-487 electric trains to Ukraine, as part of the contract between the State Administration of Railway Transport of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsya) and Georgia’s Electrovozostroitel, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

Nikolai Sergiyenko, Deputy Director General of Ukrzaliznytsya, said that the trains will pay off in 8-9 years, because they are cheaper in exploitation, consume 15-30% less electricity and have a lifespan of 30-40 years.

Ukrzaliznytsya ordered signing of a contract between Ukrzaliznychpostach and Electrovozostroitel on October 5, 2011 to purchase 110 electric trains for constant current lines.

24 trains will arrive in 2012, 30 in 2013 and 2014, 16 in 2015, 10 in 2016. They will be under maintenance of the Pridneprovskiye Railways.

VL11M-6-487 is a modified version of the VL11 model for lines with a power of 3000 W and railroad width of 1520 mm. The train consists of two sections. VL11M/b has the same operation mechanisms as VL11 and VL11M.
