Gazprom to evaluate Uzbekistan’s Kuma by late 2012

Gazprom International, operator of Gazprom’s foreign projects, has started testing the second exploration borehole at the Kuma Square on the Ustyurt Plateau of Uzbekistan. Evalutation is planned to be carried out by the end of 2012, RusEnergy reports.

The Kuma-2 borehole is 4170 meters deep. It is located in the Shakhpakhtinsky Investment Block of Gazprom International, 25 km from the Jel Field, discovered in 2009. It is expected to hold about 6 billion cubic meters of gas and over 40,000 tons of gas condensate. The Shapakhty Block underwent geological exploration within the framework of Gazprom International’s program announced early this year.

Gazprom has been studying the Ustyurt Region since 2006. Gazprom has the right to exploit the resources. Jel is located 235 km away from the Middle Asia – Center Gas Pipeline. About $400 million have been invested in geological exploration of the region.

Gazprom International is also developing the Shakhpakhty Field at Karakalpakia.
