The Federal Anti-monopoly Service (FAS) will inspect airlines on complaints received from numerous passengers, CIS and EU specialists are planned to be invited for the process, RBC reports.
The Transport Ministry is unaware of the FAS’ initiative, but is willing to cooperate.
The FAS says that it is flooded with passenger complaints about unjustified ticket prices. People want clarity about additional fees, conditions and order of ticket returns. Moreover, air companies refuse to reduce ticket prices for flights with low demand, thus sending half empty planes.
Experts say that the government should not interfere in the price policy of airlines. Total control would not reduce prices for long.
Air transport is mainly popular among passengers unconcerned over the prices. State regulation of ticket prices, as experts believe, is only suitable in case of subsidized air traffic.
