Iranian satellite ends mission

Iranian satellite Navid will burn up in the atmosphere in 2-3 days, spokesman for the Iranian Space Agency Modzhtab Saradegi said today, ITAR-TASS reports.

The satellite will drop from an altitude of 375 km to 197 km. It has made 945 rotations and sent some 200 photos.

Navid weighs 50 kg and was launched on February 3, 2012. It is the third satellite after Omid and Rasad, launched in February 2009 and June 2011 respectively. Two more satellites Tolu and Mesbah will be launched. Iran also plans to launch a monkey in a biocapsule.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said two years ago that the Space Agency is to launch a man into space by the end of the decade.
