Georgia has unveiled a bust of Polish President Lech Kaczynski, who died in an air crash near Russia's Smolensk two years ago, New Georgia reports.
The bust was built at the park named after Kaczynski. The park covers 700 square kilometers on the Street of Kaczynski. The bust was made by sculptor Avtandil Mchelidze.
Temur Grigalashvili, head of the Isani-Samgori district administration, said that the Polish president done a lot for Georgia.
Polish Ambassador to Georgia Urshula Doroshevska and Polish guests arrived for the opening. The ambassador thanked Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and his wife for attending Kaczinski’s funeral two years ago.
The Polish president died at Smolensk when his Tu-154 plane was preparing to land at the Smolensk-Seveny Airport on April 10, 2010. Besides Kaczynski himself, the plane carried his wife, part of state authorities heading to Katyn. There were 96 people on board, including 88 passengers and 8 crew members. There were no survivors.
