Russia will fulfill all its obligations in constructing the Belene nuclear power plant in Bulgaria and expects payments for contracts, Deputy Director General for international business of Rosatom Kirill Komarov said, RIA Novosti reports.
Bulgaria cancelled the Belene project in late March. The document was initially sign in 2006. A thermal power plant using gas fuel will be built at the spot instead. The reactor will be moved to Kozloduy, making a total of three energy blocks there.
Atomstroyexport and the Bulgarian National Energy Company are studying the sums Bulgaria owes Russia.
The tender for Belene nuclear power plant construction was announced in 2005. Atomstroyexport won the tender and signed a deal on November 29, 2006. The project was approved in 2007. A deal on construction of the power plant was signed on January 18, 2008.
