Colonel-General Alexander Zelin, Assistant Defense Minister of Russia for Aviation, said that Russia does not plan to move its base from Kanta in Kyrgyzstan, RIA Novosti reports.
Zelin attended a conference marking the 100th anniversary of Russian Air Forces in Voronezh. He noted that the base in Kanta has recently experienced modernization of aircraft. The base meets the interests of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Russia has an air base in Kanta, a testing site at Karakol, a communication center in Kara-Balta and a radio seismic laboratory in Mayly-Suu. The Kanta base is part of the CSTO structure.
Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev said that the Russian Defense Ministry owes $15 million for renting bases. President Dmitry Medvedev ordered the debt to be paid in 10 days. Kyrgyzstan received $15.5 million.
