Turkmenistan has signed a deal on purchase and sales of gas within the framework of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) project today, Trend reports.
State Gas Systems of Pakistan and GAIL Ltd. (India) are the purchasers. A memorandum of understanding was signed with Kabul.
Officials of the Asian Development Bank assisted in composing the deal. The document was signed at Avaz at the Caspian Sea.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed the regional value of the project at an international gas congress on Wednesday.
TAPI is based on the deal signed in Ashkhabad in late 2010. Afghanistan is still a problem in realization of the project.
The TAPI pipeline will transport up to 33 billion cubic meters of gas annually. Gas will be extracted at the Dovletebad Field and the Galkynysh Field. The pipeline will be 1735 km long. Russia and the US show interest in the project.
