Iran to be recommended to reduce uranium enrichment to quarter

Attendants of the Moscow talks on the Iranian nuclear program will recommend Tehran to reduce uranium enrichment in Natanza to a quarter, otherwise the US would cancel new talks and pass new sanctions, RIA Novosti reports.

Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, will meet Said Jalili, Secretary of the Supreme Council for National Security of Iran, in Moscow on Monday with attendance of six mediators.

The compromise plan for Iran includes reduction of uranium enrichment at Natanza from 20% to 3.5-5%, freeze of processes at Fordo. In exchange, Iran may use 145 kg of enriched uranium for the research reactor in Tehran under IAEA supervision.

The US wants all highly-enriched uranium in Iran to be transported to a different country to produce rods. Iran fears that it would leave the reactor without fuel for two years.

Russia, China and Germany are fine with Iran producing the rods itself. It would benefit the presidential polls in November (Ahmadinejad will not take part).

Russia expects positive results. Western states believe that a failure at Moscow talks will be followed by use of force. The US blame Iran for dragging negotiations. France and the UK agree.
