Azerbaijan and Iraq have signed a memorandum of understanding, allowing them to open direct air links, a secretary of the Iraqi embassy in Azerbaijan, Jassim Mohammed Ahmed, told Trend on Friday.
The document was signed by Faud Guliyev, Deputy Director of the State Administration of Civil Aviation of Azerbaijan, and Naser Hussein Bander, Director General of the Administration of Iraqi Civil Aviation.
Air connections may open between Baku, Nakhchivan, Ganja and Qabala with Baghdad, Najaf, Erbil and Basra.
Baku and Najaf will have the first flights. The officials also considered simplification of freighting.
