The Bulgarian President, Georgi Parvanov, has started a two-day visit to Azerbaijan, which will last from June 30th to July 1st, APA reports. The visit will see discussion of bilateral relations development in the political and trade-economic spheres. In Turkey, where he was on a visit before arriving in Azerbaijan, Parvanov offered to organize a trilateral meeting of companies of Bulgaria, Turkey and Azerbaijan to hold talks on gas deliveries from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria . The gas route from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria is of vital importance to the EU in terms of diversification of fuel supplies.
The presidents of Azerbaijan and Bulgaria will also discuss the project of liquified natural gas delivery from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria, providing for export of 1 billion cubic meters of gas annually.
The construction of the Azerbaijani gas processing terminal on Georgia's Black Sea coast (SOCAR owns the oil terminal in Kulevi) and transportation of gas and oil by vessels, particularly to Bulgaria, for shipment to the domestic gas pipeline network in Europe, are under consideration. The project is envisaged as being implemented in two directions - LNG and CNG. The first direction is the construction of a gas liquefaction plant, and the second is the delivery of gas directly by ship for compression. The project will provide for deliveries of about 7-20 billion cubic meters of gas.
