Iran rules out Trans-Caspian gas transit

The Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) is not a threat to Iranian gas exports and will allow exports of 16-20 billion cubic meters, as stated by Husein Bidarmegz, Director of the Iranian National Company for Gas Exports, Trend reports.

The official said that export of Turkmen gas using TANAP through the Caspian Sea and then via the Trans-Anatolia Gas Pipeline is impossible.

Iran and Russia protect Caspian ecology and do not want a gas pipeline running under the sea, he explains. This is why Turkmen gas may only reach the Trans-Anatolia Gas Pipeline through Iran. Iran offers transit of Turkmen gas to Turkey.
