EU Eastern Partnership does not have enough control over quality of air

A number of serious systemic gaps in the assessment and management of air quality are present within the Eastern Partnership countries, a study prepared in the framework of the EU project "Air quality management in ENPI countries" shows, ITAR-TASS reports referring to the EU Neighbourhood Information Centre.

The report says that in a number of countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine have poorly developed systems for the monitoring of the air quality, data collection and processing, as well as a limited access to the latest information and incomplete accounting of emissions (with the partial exception of Belarus and Russia).

The report proposes to introduce changes to the legislation in the above mentioned countries in compliance with the EU directives and to ratify a number of protocols.
