The Georgian Ombudsman for Energy accused the sister company of SOCAR of violating the rights of consumers. According to Valeriy Pkhakadze, the company forces new consumers to pay 12 tetri more than old consumers for natural gas in the regions of Kakheti and Lagodekhskiy, Business Georgia reports.
Pkhakadze said that in 2007 the company received the right to set the prices freely. He said that the minister of energy signed a decree on price forming by the distributing company. If the company builds a new network it gets the right to set prices. The minister plans to meet officials from SOCAR to discuss the price issue.
The new consumers say that those registered from May 1st pay 10 tetri more. The radio station ‘Kommersant’ said that the company might have to give an explanation to parliament.
