Georgia exported 13,491 tons of wine in January-September 2012, reducing the volumes in the same period of 2011 by 26.5%. Income from Georgian wine in the 9 months increased by 18.4% to $42.6 million, which was 2.4% of all exports, Interfax reports.
Exports of brandy, vodka and other alcohol drinks increased by 27.7% to 17,149 tons, increasing income by 45.6% to $61.3 million, which was 3.5% of all exports.
Most alcohol was sold in Ukraine for $47.2 million (wine for $19.2 million, other drinks for $28 million). Georgia exports wine to 40 countries. Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus are the top importers.
Wine production should increase by 50% in 2015, compared with 2011. Income should double.
