The Iraq Kurdistan Alliance was having negotiations with the central Iraqi authorities and the Shiite National Alliance about payment of foreign companies extracting oil in Kurdistan, as stated by Mahma Halil, a member of Iraqi parliament of the Kurdish Alliance, member of the commission for economy and investments, RIA Novosti reports.
Kurds demand payments of about $859 million, a debt accumulated since 2010. They also threaten to sabotage voting for the budget of 2013.
Bahdad and Erbil have been disputing oil payments the last years.
The central authorities fear that Kurdistan, owner of 60% of oil in Iraq, may use the resource to achieve independence. Kurds accuse the central authorities of uneven distribution of income from oil sales.
