Iran-Pakistan pipeline construction plan presented in Tehran

Iranian and Pakistani Presidents Mahmoud Ahnadinejad and Asif Ali Zardari have attended a meeting and observed a presentation of the Iran-Pakistan pipeline in Tehran today.

According to the project of 2005, the pipeline will be 2,700km long. It may be extended to India in the future, although India refused to take part in the initiative.

Iranian Petroleum Minister Rostam Ghasemi had visited Pakistan a few weeks earlier. According to a deal made in Islamabad last month, Iran will grant $250 million for the first stage of the pipeline construction in Pakistan. Minister for Oil and Natural Resources of Pakistan Asim Hussein said that Pakistan will build its section of the pipeline in 15 months. Iran has already built over 900km of the pipeline. It is expected to be launched in 2014.
