Iranian Petroleum Minister Rostam Ghasemi met his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Karim el Luaibi in Baghdad and discussed signing of a deal on Iranian gas exports to Iraq and plans to sign a deal on gas exports to Syria, Iran News reports.
About 20-25 million cubic meters of gas daily will first be exported to Baghdad, then to Basra in three months.
Iran, Iraq and Syria signed a memorandum of understanding in mid-2010 to build a 5600-km long pipeline worth about $10 billion. It will have a capacity of 110 million cubic meters daily.
Syria will buy 20-25 million cubic meters daily. Lebanon and Jordan will buy uncertain volumes of gas. Iran plans to organize exports of liquefied gas through Mediterranean ports of Syria to Europe.
