Iran will put a storage facility with a capacity of 1.5 billion cubic meters into operation in the next 12 months, Iran News said.
The head of the gas storage company said the launch of the Sarajeh facility in the Qom province would allow Iran to resolve gas supply problems and also the dropping of pressure levels in pipelines in the Tehran and Qom regions, as well as in several central regions of Iran.
He also said the project was begun after the cold winter of 2007-08.
In the first stage, during warm periods of the year some 7.3 million cubic meters of gas will be pumped into the storage facility every 24 hours. This will increase to 9.8 million in the winter months.
The project will cost around $45 million. The Sarajeh facility will have a total capacity of 3.3 billion cubic meters of gas.
