Armenian economy recovers after recession

The Armenian national statistics service published the macroeconomic indicators for the first half of 2010. The chairman of the parliamentary commission for finances and credit affairs, Gagik Minasyan, commented on the indicators, Panorama reports.


He said that the income of the state budget increased by 22.5% compared with the same period in 2009, and by 6% compared with 2008.

Industrial growth grew by 12.3%, construction by approximately 4% and services by approximately 6%. Exports rose by 55.9%.


Only agriculture has problems, showing a 13% fall due to climactic conditions.


GDP growth reached 6.7%, provided by industrial growth. The predicted GDP growth was 1 to 2%.


The level of inflation is 7.3% compared with the previous year. The normal inflation rate should not exceed 5.5%.


The progress is explained by activity on the international markets and implementation of anti-crisis measures. The primary targets of the program are ore mining and small and medium-sized businesses, Minasyan said.
