Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrisov held a meeting today with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, who paid an official visit to Astana, Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported on Monday.
During the negotiations the ministers had a constructive dialogue on Kazakh-Chinese cooperation and interaction within international institutions, as well as on regional and global security issues.
Evidence of successful promotion of trade and economic cooperation is the volume of bilateral trade, which amounted to $23.9 billion in 2012, as well as the intention of the parties to increase the current figure to $40 billion by 2015.
One of the key issues on the agenda was the upcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Kazakhstan in September. Given the significance of this visit for the further development of bilateral relations, the parties exchanged views on high level preparations for the event.
"Kazakhstan attaches great importance to China's significant role in international peace, its importance as one of the drivers of world economic processes, as well as the country's active position in the solution of international problems," Trend quotes the official report.
The parties agree that the continuation of negotiations between the heads of state within the mechanism of regular meetings will be the main basis for the development of bilateral cooperation in strategic areas of the Kazakh and Chinese economies.
