Iranian car manufacturers pay the Iranian government 30-40% of income from sales of cars in the country, Trend cites Javad Nedzhmeddin, Director General of Khodro Industrial Group.
The official noted that the administration was earning $2,800 from every Peugeot 405 sold for $10,000.
Iranian car manufacturers requested Mohammedarez Nematzade, Minister for Industry, Mining and Trade, to allow them to set own prices for cars.
The manufacturers suffer from rising prices for materials, as a result of US sanctions. Car production dropped by 46.3% in January-April 2013, compared with the same period in 2012.
The US adopted new sanctions against Iranian car manufacturers on July 1. South Korean companies said that they will not sell car parts to Iran.
