The head of the southern railroad of Iran, Ali Reza Ekhteshami, said that during Government Week in late August, the Khorremshehr-Shalamche railroad will be launched, Iran News reports, citing ‘IRIB news’.
According to Ekhteshami, $20 million was spent on construction of the railroad. Its primary lines are 17 km long and the auxiliary lines are 3 km long. It is currently undergoing testing.
Construction started in January 2007 and was carried out with the assistance of specialists from the southern railroad.
Ekhteshami emphasized that the province of Khuzestan has large naval ports, such as Khorremshehr, Imam of Khomeyni and Makhshekr and connection with Iraqi railroads through Khorremshekr-Shalamche will turn the province into a significant international transport corridor.
The length of the railroads of Khuzestan is 473 km.
