The USA will further tighten control over passengers on all international flights from outside America's borders. "The head of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, announced today that the transport safety division will introduce new improved measures for all airlines providing international flights to the US. These measures are being taken to strengthen passenger security, in addition to the measures taken after the attempted terrorist act of 25th December 2009", reports RIA-Novosti, citing information from the department.
Strengthening of security measures was carried out after the unsuccessful terrorist act on board flight A330 on 25th December 2009, when 25 year-old Nigerian national Umar Faruk Abdulmutallab, who had studied in London, attempted to set off a explosive device on the way from Amsterdam to Detroit.
"The new measures propose the use of the latest technology to locate potential threats, as well as numerous spot checks, both visible and invisible to passengers. These measures will allow us to repel any terrorist threat more effectively", the announcement from the head of
the Department of Homeland Security said.
