The ‘Air Batumi’ company has admitted for the first time that internal flights in Georgia are unprofitable, executive director of the company Demur Leledze told ‘Kommersant’ radio, Business Georgia reports. He said that the main problem is the price of fuel, which undergoes VAT and excise tax. Another problem is that ‘Air Batumi’ cannot make flights for 50 euros. The company was selling passenger tickets for 19 lari.
The chairman of ‘Sky Georgia’, Georgiy Kodua, also has doubts about cheap air flights. The Georgian president blamed ‘Air Batumi’ for a lack of cheap flights and said that this was due to their commercial inflexibility.
The Irish company Ryanair plans to start operating in Georgia next year using the ‘Low Cost’ system. Tickets will go on sale in January. In the first month the price of a ticket will be 1 euro, after which it will reach 50 euros.
