U.S. technical standards do not allow Ukrainian Soviet-made reactors to use its fuel, the International Union of Atomic Energy and Industry Veterans said today, commenting on the Energoatom-Westinghouse contract for U.S. purchase of nuclear fuel that, violating the rules, could cause accidents comparable with the Chernobyl events, RIA Novosti reports.
Decompression of heat elements occurred at the Temelin nuclear power plant (Czech Republic) a few years ago. The Czech Republic stopped purchasing Westinghouse elements after the accident. Problems with Westinghouse heat elements were registered at two energy blocks at the South-Ukrainian nuclear power plant.
