Russian Defense Ministry starts supplying Crimea with water

The Russian Defense Ministry has started supplying the south-eastern part of Crimea with water, RIA Novosti reports.

Ukraine used to supply the peninsula with 85% of needed fresh water using the North-Crimean Canal connecting Dnieper with Crimea. The water supply was shut down in April 2014.

The Western Military District started pumping water to Crimea from Stary Krym. The new pipeline built by the military will provide 2,000 cubic meters of water a day. Pipelines to supply Crimea 9,000 cubic meters of water a day will have a total length of over 125,000km.
