The EU plans to develop a set of measures to overcome an energy deficit that may happened over the Russian-Ukrainian gas dispute, Rosbalt reports.
European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger said at an international energy conference in Brussels that the European Commission will present a document on energy security in a week or two. The document will diversify sources, routes and suppliers of gas.
The document has details about filling containers with energy carriers, development of national plans for emergency situations and delivery of gas supplies to members of the EU in the Eastern Europe. Some countries, such as Estonia and Bulgaria are fully dependent on Russian gas.
In response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s letter of May 14, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso expressed hope yesterday that Moscow would continue gas exports as long as the trilateral consultations of the EU, Ukraine and Russia continued. Barroso emphasized that further participation of the sides in the process and settlement of gas disputes were of utmost importance.
