The head of the ‘South Caucasian Railroad’ company, Shevket
Shaydullin, has been awarded the badge for ‘Faith and Virtue’ by the
Governor of Ulyanovsk Region, Sergey Morozov, for his active
participation in restoring the ‘Hill of Honour’ memorial in the city
of Gyumri, News Armenia reports, citing the press-service of the
company. The ceremony was held at the Russian embassy in Armenia.
The ‘Hill of Honour’ is a military graveyard established as a memorial
in 1856 by the head of Caucasian forces General N. N. Muravyov. Junior
and senior officers, Generals Kovalevskiy, Duke Gagarin, Grabbe and
Chelokayev are buried there. A Russian Orthodox chapel stands nearby.
Restoration of the memorial was initiated by Russian Ambassador to
Armenia Vyacheslav Kovalenko and was approved by the authorities of
both countries. The memorial was opened when Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev visited Yerevan in August 2010.
Shevket Shaydullin made a significant contribution to restoration of
the memorial and to strengthening humanitarian and cultural
cooperation between Russia’s Ulyanovsk Region and Armenia’s Shirak
Region.
‘South Caucasian Railroad’ is a 100% sister company of the ‘Russian
Railroads’ company. ‘Armenian Railroad’ was given over to concessional
management by the ‘South Caucasian Railroad’, according to an
agreement signed on February the 13th 2008. The concessional
management is due to last 30 years and can be prolonged by 10 more
years.
