Business cooperation with Azerbaijan among Russian priorities

Russian Minister for Economic Development Alexey Ulyukayev said that economic cooperation with Azerbaijan was a priority for Russia. He reminded that the sides had free trade, interstate and intergovernmental deals, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.

The minister noted that there were logistical and transportation limitations, legal problems hindering investment progress. Uluykayev added that he had met his Azerbaijani counterpart Shakhin Mustafayev and discussed increase of transit, combined freighting by road, railway, air and maritime transportation. For example, the sides may open a ferry between Baku and Ol. Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have been using ferry transportation for a long time. Azerbaijan plans to open a logistical center in Yekaterinburg. Ulyukayev said that there was need to form logistical centers to export Azerbaijani flowers to Russia.

The Russian minister called the interstate agreement on promotion and mutual protection of investments a firm basis for capitals in industry, innovation and high-tech project. A related agreement will be signed in July 2014. Russian business considers joint production of railway carriages, energy equipment, oil and gas mechanisms, metallurgical systems.

Ulyukayev reminded that Russia offered tax and customs preferences, free access to infrastructure. He believes that Azerbaijan needs promoting and advertising to inform Russian business about its capital opportunities.
