Mini hydroelectric power station built in west Georgia

A mini hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 70 kilowatts has
been built in the village of Chiora in Georgia's Onsk Region. It can
produce 400,000 kilowatt-hours of energy, enough to fulfill demands of
the village, Trend reports.

The Minister of Environmental Protection, Goga Khachidze, deputy head
of the office of the UN development program, Inita Paulovich, and the
Governor of Racha-Lechkhumi, David Gagoshidze, visited the power
plant.

The power plant was built with the financial support of Norway and the
UN development program. The project cost $100,000.

The project includes restoration of the 300-kilowatt Khani-2 power
line in the village of Nergeti in Bagdat region, and construction of a
500-kilowatt hydroelectric plant in the village of Pshaveli in Telav
region. Both power plants will be launched in 2011.
