Georgian index of economic freedom rises

According to the Fraser Institute, Georgia has risen 22 places among
141 countries, taking 23rd place (with a score of 7.47) in the index
of economic freedom, Business Georgia reports.

The Ministry of Economy and Stable Development reported that last year
Georgia was 45th in the ratings. Georgia is now ahead of Germany,
Lithuania, Bulgaria, Spain , Armenia, Latvia, Greece, Italy, Russia,
Azerbaijan and others.

First place goes to Hong Kong, with Zimbabwe in last. The reasons for
improving the rating of Georgia are the reduction of state
expenditure, better currency stability, higher external trading rates,
reductions in trade barriers, expenditure on business and procedure
settlement, simplification of starting up businesses and other
measures. The rating is published annually.
