The Metsamor nuclear power plant of Armenia will continue running the second block until 2026, according to an agreement between the Russian and the Armenian governments to be signed at the end of the year, said Armenian Deputy Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Ara Simonyan, Trend reports.
Realization of the project will require $300 million. Russia will allocate $30 million of the sum as a grant, the rest as a loan.
The Metsamor nuclear power plant was shut down after the earthquake in 1988. It was reactivated in 1995. Only the second reactor is running. International specialists call the plant a very dangerous facility due to the high seismic risks in the area.
