Shell increases purchases of Iranian oil

Despite the sanctions introduced by the UN Security Council against
Iran, the English-Dutch oil consortium Shell is increasing its oil
purchases from Iran, while other major companies, including BP and
Reliance Industries, halted their purchases due to the sanctions, IRNA
reports.

This summer Shell paid $1.5 billion dollars to the Iranian National
Oil Company, 25% more than last year. British Foreign Secretary
William Hague confirmed that his country does not promote trade and
investment in Iran due concerns over its nuclear program.

Shell insists on the legality of its trading with Iran. French and
Italian companies Total and Api have also increased oil purchases from
Iran by 12% and 70% correspondingly.
